jack hammer

the jack hammer thundered 
and devoured every sound 
except the ticking stabs 
of hunger in his temple.

                       the mounds 
                                  of earth     
            the scaffolds       the cement mixer     
       the trees     
                                                 the sky 
                            everything   
                          everything   swirled
                                                 like top  

             and went dim.

the jack hammer plummeted.
beside it, his body – another robust 
muscled-machine lay busted.		
 
tomorrow 
a new pair of hungry hands 
will hug the jack hammer.
